Over the last couple of months, I've been focusing on building some simple behaviors to help me stay healthy while confined. I figured that if there is one thing that can be positive during these times, then I’m gonna do it.... #selfcare
What the pandemic has taught me is that we need to start investing some more time into ourselves... because, in the grand scheme of things, health really is wealth.
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
― Audre Lorde
Self-care is so important to me. Honestly, we sometimes forget that it is absolutely necessary to step away from the treadmill that we call life and look after ourselves. I’ve put together some of my favourite self-care rituals.... have fun and indulge :)
Listen to some feel-good music, and practice ‘at home’ facials
Is there really a better mood booster? #doubtit, and why not spend this time on some DIY beauty treatments? Facials, lip scrubs, breathing exercises, cleaning your makeup brushes... No one can go wrong with a good facial.
Drink MORE water
I know this is a bit mundane..but hey, a hydrated body is a better body. Fewer headaches, better skin, better hair, etc. This is really a no-brainer.
Exercise
And it doesn’t have to be the "hard-core, I think I’m going to vomit", type of workout. I have found that after trying every type of exercise, it’s yoga and pilates for me. I suggest you feed your mind, body, and soul without feeling like you are going to pass out.
Spend quality time with your pets
I SO believe in animal therapy. It's not rocket science. Most animals naturally provide humans with comfort and support. Animals have no preconceived notions of humans and provide unconditional warm and fuzzy love.
Be thankful + Positive
Every morning, take a deep breath (or three or four) and think of three (3) things that you are thankful for. I find that living a life full of gratitude is one of the best ways to live a truly fulfilling life. And you know what else? By doing this simple exercise, I find that I notice the small things. Go ahead... Give it a try!
Take some time daily to disconnect.
I think I am the MASTER of this, Haha! I look forward to totally disconnecting on weekends. And I mean, I do not open my computer, I will consciously not go on social media, and I try to fully relax, unwind, and immerse myself in self-care on weekends... and it becomes a "thing"
I hope y’all give some of these a try. Thank me later ;)
"Build a life you don't want to escape from!"
I really hope this piece has inspired you to incorporate some relaxing self-care practices into your daily routine. I advise you to find comfort in your routines and to strive to stick to them even when things are difficult.
Until next time…
Xx
